Phoenix photographer

A really sweet friend of mine that is a photographer encouraged me last night. She is one of the most encouraging people I know, always uplifting and saying kind words.

I know there are tons of new pro photographers that are arising. I am happy that others are doing well. But it saddens me that people want to copy other photographers work because we are suppose to be hired for our creativity, artistic talent, eye for composition, educated mind in technical and artistic. Not just one thing or another. When I ask my clients to show me what they like I am thankful and super happy to see they know what they want and don’t want. I don’t want to copy the same exact pose as someone else., it reminds me of cheating on a test in school.

I don’t mind if they show me pictures they appreciate or like but I don’t want to be a cookie cutter photographer. I want them to hire me for my eye in seeing something beautiful during their session. Something unique, they might not have noticed if they were the ones taking pictures of their child or family. I went to college for art and computer animation. I was trained in perspective, composition, sculpting, drawing, color, photoshop, photography  etc. I learned growing up to see light in a trained way how to see shadows on a person’s face to bring out their character that makes them who they are. Because I used to draw portraits of faces over and over.

When my clients hire me I love one of the things that I hear that they like how I capture light. This makes me feel really good because I have been trying to master light for years.
I don’t mind my clients showing me reference of photos they like, but when I first started I used to have clients say to me I saw this picture I really liked and wanted to see if you could do it. I said well I am not that person, I have a different style and shoot a whole different way then those people. I can come up with something similar but I don’t want to copy it.

If your a new or old photographer remember the basics, you have your own style. Model it shape it, if you don’t like it smash it and recreate it, go to new ventures you never went before, in a rut? shoot things you never shot before, shoot everything from the smallest insect to the tallest building. But use your eye, your mind, create something inspiring.

This is Sequoia in California.

I created this for everyone to remember that the best you can be is who you are.

Here is a God one if anyone wants to pin it! I am pin addicted lately, sadly I stay up too late pinning and pinning!
