Babies over the age of 14 days | Phoenix Photographer.

Phoenix Newborn Photographer| East Valley newborn Photographer

From time to time parents contact me about their baby being over the 14 day mark for those curled poses the prime days are 7-10. Below are many things to expect for those babies that are older than 14 days.  My goal is to make sure your photo session is as successful as possible and your able to get beautiful photos. This is a great way to understand what to expect for your newborn photography session.  Babies 14 days and older are recommended to book a newborn mini session.our baby won’t be able to get those tight curled poses because they have too much meat on their body at this point.  These sessions are a little different because they are more natural and don’t look posed. Babies have a little more weight on them and look beautiful and healthy
Babies 14+ days
1. During your photography session your baby needs to be moved to different positions for different poses and angels.  This will cause your baby to wake up almost every time I touch them more. This will take lot of patience to wait in between each pose for your baby to fall back asleep.
2. Your baby may not sleep in deep sleep possibly for a hour session. If you are looking for those sleepy poses then I won’t be able start til your baby is fully into a deep sleep.  There are a few things that cause older babies not to fall asleep right away. There are new sounds and they are curious where they are. If your baby sleeps super hard and long at home this might not be the case at the studio due to all this new information. Really depends on your baby they are all different. Some have no problem sleeping after they are fed.
3. Your baby may only sleep for 20- 30 minutes total for a session so I would have to work fast.
4. At this age and time your baby might have acne which can make your turn around editing time longer by 1-2 weeks depending on how much the acne there is.
5. Majority of the session at least ¾ of it your baby might be awake for.  I can only take photos if your babies eyes are fully open not partially open.
6. I can not pose your baby while they are awake because they fight against me when posing.  When they are sleeping their bodies are more pliable due to how relaxed they are and comfortable.
7. At this age your baby can have gas, acid reflex or colic which after feeding can cause babies to cry or just be fussy and upset. If your baby has this going on feeding tons more will only make it worse. You can try gas drops or gripe water helps calm their tummies down.
Good thing about older babies awake they are adorable, have tummy time be able to prop themselves up more.
I can take lifestyle photos with such as Mom or Dad or both cuddling with baby at any age. Plus family photos are great any age. You don’t need poses for those. The biggest thing at that time is if you would like beautiful portraits at this time and don’t mind if your baby is curled up or just natural than this would work for you to take pictures at this age. If you are only wanting those tight curled photos I am sorry to say the time has passed unless you get lucky and your baby is a very hard sleeper meaning nothing will wake them up than you have a chance.

Before 14 days (7-10 days)
1. Your baby is much sleepier and won’t mind being moved around from pose to pose and doesn’t noticed being moved around at all.
2. Babies at this age tend to have cross eyes so getting photos of them with their eyes open is better if they are older.
3. My professional opinion is to schedule the session after right after your baby is born or before. Especially for breastfeeding moms, in order to make sure baby has somewhat of a feeding schedule and has learn to latch correctly in order to get enough milk.
