Newborn photos in Studio vs your home | Q & A | Phoenix baby photographer

I get this question all the time about shooting newborn photography in your home vs my studio.  At the beginning of my Professional Photography career I drove to clients home and took tons of bins of props, from baskets, hats, backgrounds etc into their homes. I quit because of the  many reasons and having the same constant natural light and backgrounds is how I shoot.I do shoot in client’s homes as well for a different look which is more of a lifestyle shoot. The difference in the two is I won’t be bringing all the backgrounds etc to your home.
MY PHOTO STUDIO- The newborns on blog have all been done in my studio and all are normally within the 1-14 days of the baby’s life.  I have a studio with tons of props, headbands, backgrounds, hats, bowls, etc. once you book your session with me I will send you an email to be able to prepare which you would like to pick out for your session to help make it faster for you.  With the newborns in my studio you will have the same look and feel as the newborn portraits on my blog.

YOUR HOME- it would be totally different style then what you see on my blog. Example either baby laying on your bed, and pictures of parents holding baby, parents looking at baby, (which I still do these types in my studio as well) your home would be different because you won’t have a background studio look.  It would be more of a journalistic/lifestyle of your home and your family. I can come to your home just know that 90% of my newborn sessions are done in my studio and all are born within the first 1-14 days of life. Even the preemies, twins, triplets. If your wanting to do them in your home it needs to be bright enough to shoot in, you will need to take 2-3 pictures and send them to me, unless they are bigger then 5’x5′ and don’t have any dark screens on the outside.  Possibly of the brightest time of day either in A.M or P.M.  in the 1-3 rooms you would like to shoot in that would be a big help to know if it’s bright enough to shoot there or not.  I do have a travel fee after 30miles from 85296 I charge $25 per 30 minutes. Props to your home, I can bring a couple up to 5 but the point of the journalistic style is to have it look different then my studio and more natural setting and not staged. No backgrounds extra just family hanging out and candid style.

Here is a perfect example of what a lifestyle newborn session would be like (this is not my work just a beautiful example):http://wenderful.com/2012/09/early-san-francisco-newborn-photographer/

BOOKING YOUR NEWBORN SESSION

$100 retainer is placed to I block out 3 weekend dates around your due date. Unless something happens and you know sooner then I am sure I could fit you in. Newborns due have busier times each year and it’s best to plan ahead if you can.. I do ask that the Wednesday of that week so that I can book around you tell me you won’t be needing it so I can book someone on my waiting list.

PROPS- I have a closet full of backgrounds, and shelf+ full of props, 6 baskets full of hats, headbands, diaper covers, wraps etc. Your welcome to bring whatever you would like as well.

BEST TIME TO BOOK A SESSION- I am usually booked out 1-3 months depending on the time or year and season.  That being said I don’t book later than 3 months ahead, because twice a year my family takes a vacation and this helps us plan ahead.

Last minute sessions-

Because I booked my clients 3 weekend dates a lot of time I can take a last minute one since they won’t be using all 3 dates. Please don’t hesitate to call or email. I normally take at least one last minute newborn or baby photo session a month.   During the slow season if you call last minute there might be a spot open.
